Overview

Questions about breathing and lung health? We’re just a phone call (or email) away.

In the last year, our certified respiratory educators (CREs) provided lung health counseling through 3,257 phone calls and 340 emails.

The Lung Association works to ensure that everyone can breathe easier and that they have access to the resources and supports they need to do so. The Lung Association Lung Health Information Line was created with this goal in mind. It is a free service offered to anyone across Ontario and Canada. Certified respiratory educators (CRE’s), health-care professionals who have the competencies to provide comprehensive, evidence-informed care, are on hand via phone or email to answer questions related to lung health.

Our CRE’s offer information and guidance on a variety of breathing concerns such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary fibrosis and other lung diseases. They also deal with smoking cessation counseling, and indoor and outdoor air quality issues.

A story about Sarah and her mom

We’d like to share a story about Sarah and her mom. Sarah has asthma – a serious and potentially fatal lung disease.

When Sarah was first diagnosed, her mom had so many questions but wasn’t sure where to find answers. Sarah’s mom was able to call this line and speak directly to a CRE who put her at ease and explained how she could best control her daughter’s asthma. All it took was this one phone call to give her peace of mind and better understand her daughter’s condition. Ultimately, it empowered her to be able to properly care for her child with asthma. Thanks to donors like you, The Lung Association was there through free access to our Lung Health Information Line.
